NEW YORK--Movie theatre audiences around the globe will have an opportunity to see a truly spectacular breakout Met Opera debut performance when soprano Liudmyla Monastyrska stars as AIDA in this Saturday's MET LIVE HD presentation at 12:55 Eastern Time.

Having already seen the production twice on the stage of the Metropolitan Opera House, I can attest to the fact that this is an unforgettable production with massive sets, elaborate costumes and fantastic singing. Roberto Alagna is commanding as the doomed general Radames. Olga Borodina is the vengeful Amneris in a bravura performance.

Verdi's sweeping panoramic drama of ancient Egypt literally thunders across the stage with live galloping horses, a huge chorus, dancers and, of course, Verdi's magnificent score played as only the Metropolitan Opera orchestra can.
